Photo by Stanislav KondratievYou’re Not The Great Work
You’re not a visionary.
Your sporadic ability to focus is not a…gift.
You’re not Steve Jobs.
I am not Tyler Durden.
But—
You cannot continue to excuse your lack of leadership, process, and presence as broken byproducts of your Great Work.
Yes! You may have wildly divergent mental acuity! Artistic ability! An intelligence sharp enough to disprove me, yourself, and your entire team!
But!
You must work.
You must lead.
You must commit yourself to the people and processes that got you here.
If you don’t…
You’re just another self-indulgent Archetype.
You are not your Identity.
And…
Right now, people need you.
Your company needs you.
The Work needs you.
But…
Not you as The Great Work.
But…
The Work your business needs from you.
Do not rant and rave at the myriad of work-arounds that have been instituted while you were spiraling in so-called afflatus.
Instead…
You must be present.
You must be focused.
You must be committed.
You are not The Great Work.
The Business is.
Your People are.
Oh…
And you really are not a unique, individual snowflake.
Because, deep down, aren’t we all?
Being gifted does not remove the work of leadership.
